Price is negotiable. We had to list a price so that we could show a photo that could be enlarged.
This is a paa dtuum, a body wrap that goes around mother/father and child. It usually has no backing or borders and even if the indigo and cream part is all cotton, the bottom red part is silk so that there is a strong, flexible part to tuck in to keep the whole “bundle” together. Usually, though, most if not all (the warp at least) is made of silk, so that it’s strong and warm.
The design is usually one of protection (against evil spirits) and power (for the baby’s healthy growth and development). The saang design here does both of those things. The ngueak heads (in lines) in the dark indigo are also protective. In the red silk hem, it seems that there are coiled-tailed serpents (pent up power) and mountain serpents (“W” shaped) — both good auspicious signs.
