This shaman's cloth was owned by a female shaman in Sam Tai. These shaman's cloths were used in various ways at healing ceremonies. This cloth is also sometimes called a phaa khan soeng.
These healing cloths were woven wth hand-spun indigo cotton in the wawr and weft and embellished with silk discontinuous supplementary weft designs. Only the shamans used them, unlike the phaa sabai, which were used by ordinary people as well as the shamans, thus fewer examples of these exist. The phaa phii mon were used in various ways at healing ceremonies, many still undocumented. There are often an intense concentration of shamanic motifs, and complex weaving techniques were used to create the illusion of three-dimensional images.
